Call for Singers - Five Seasons Chamber Choir

On December 22nd, 1808 a mammoth four-hour concert in Vienna featured the premiere of both the 5th and 6th symphonies of Beethoven performed by local musicians under the composer's direction.  Can you imagine what a thrill that must have been to premiere two of the most important works in the history of the symphony?

As a musical culture, we've gotten away from our roots.  In the old days concerts with local composers, musicians and audiences were the norm, not the exception.

How would you like to be part of getting back to those roots?  If you're a talented singer, we would love to use your abilities in helping form the Five Season Chamber Choir.  Details for this exciting project are below.

Project Details: On May 22nd at 8 pm, the newly formed Five Seasons Chamber choir will premiere This Precious Gift by composer Ralph Kendrick and His Mighty Love by Des Moines-based composer Melody Dawning Devos.  The performance will take place at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids as part of the Iowa Composers Forum's A Cedar Rapids Festival of New Music and will be conducted by composer Ralph Kendrick.  Singers are needed on all vocal parts.  Ideally the group will be between 16-24 singers (4 to 6 on a part).

If you're a talented singer, help us get back to our roots by forming the Five Seasons Chamber Choir for this special performance!

Learn More:  Ralph Kendrick's This Precious Gift is an a cappella work based on a text by Iowa poet Elizabeth Lathrop Powers. Regarding the work the composer writes,"This Precious Gift is a work dedicated to my son Zachary - who was two years old at the time of the piece's conception. The text of the poem struck a deep chord with me, as it deals with a father's insecurity at raising a son the right way in dangerous times - allowing him to enjoy his childhood while at the same time, shielding him from harm's way.  It is an awesome task, and one which can only be accomplished with a great deal of divine help, guidance, and strength - strength to teach my son a faith that I don't always embrace as I should."  An excerpt of the text follows...

         He is so small and helpless;
         His very life depends on me.
         O help me Lord to know
         how best to shield him
         from earth's care and strife;
         Life's many dangers, while I watch him grow.

Melody Dawning Devos' work His Mighty Love is Without End for SATB choir and piano is based on 2nd Chronicles 'King against tyrants, army against hordes, Israel trembles before her wicked foes.  A prayer of faith, a plea for guidance, surely God will save the ones he chose....

      Thanks for your compliment.  I use godaddy.com to host my website and the blog.  Thanks for checking both out.  One thing to check is the file size of the pictures you are using.  Smaller file sizes help the page load faster.  You should be able to minimize the file size through a utility like Micosoft Picture Viewer and the quality shouldn't be diminished too much.  Good luck, and please keep checking back!
